disodium inosinate?

i don't claim to be a food snob... (meat elitist, yes, but more on that later). i'm not a suburban soccer mom or commune hippie that will ONLY eat organic. i DO read labels, try to eat local and frequent farmers' markets. HOWEVER... sometimes (way more than i am willing to admit) i slip up. picking up some basics at the corporate supermarket yesterday, i grabbed a light lunch from the deli counter. Thank Goodness for food labeling laws...
WTF?!?!

in protest i abandoned my cart (not kidding) and ran to the merc.
side note - the community mercantile (the merc) is lawrence's co-op market, an equivalent of the outpost in mke or the wedge in msp and also happens to be my lovely place of employment for the last year
using my employee/member discount i took matters into my own hands and picked up EIGHT ingredients... and that included the optional salt.

1. free range, vegetarian fed, antibiotic free, local chicken breasts (told you... meat elitist)
2. green onions
3. italian parsley
4. celery
5. red grapes
6. almond slivers (cashews are an awesome substitute also!)
7. mayonnaise
8. salt - to taste

yum.

now my stomach and conscience feel better.

  2. It's just a type of salt. If the ingredients listed “halitic sodium chloride” would you run away too? Listing the chemically correct name for clarity (thanks to those labeling laws) does not equal “OMG I’m poisoning my body with chemicals!”
