typecast

this morning a friend asked me what "my type" was
i shrugged and told her i really didn't have one
'well who are some actors you like and think are attractive' - she asks
me - umm defiantly jim from the office
jason batemen
ewan mcgrager
the guy who played burger on SATC
mcdreamy from greys
mark ruffalo
and kinda that guy from the big bang theory who was on rosanne once
she paused for a minute then let out a great big howl
she - you realize they're all the same person... right?
me - what?
...then she made me google image search every single one-of-them.

oh hell.
then she googled "romantic comedy"...
it all went down hill from there.

how am i not myself?

getting my ducks in a row
a sign you'll find after being shuffled through security
in the midwest terminal at the mke airport

i heart huckabees: "what am i doing? i don't know what i'm doing. i'm doing the best that i can. i know that's all i can ask of myself. is that good enough? is my work doing any good? is anybody paying attention? is it hopeless to try and change things? the african guys a sign, right? because if he isn't than nothing in this world makes any sense to me; i'm fucked. maybe i should quit. don't quit. maybe i should just fucking quit. don't fucking quit. just, i don't know what the fuck i'm supposed to do anymore. fucker. fuck. shit."

bahaha! i love that movie.
and there's nothing like an indie drama to cheer you up when job searching sends you into a tailspin of existential questions
?
what am i doing with my life
what am i passionate about
what gets me up in the morning
what gets my blood boiling
do i take the job that pays the bills
do take the job that advances my career
do i take the job that i love
...
what DO i love
?
good question.

how many stamps does a letter to afghanistan need?

what?! what kind of question is that? never thought i'd hear myself ask it, but it's a reality. ya know what else is a reality... not getting a job at your dream company (aka aveda). ugh. curve balls, right? luckily i remembered that world market sells wine in wisconsin ;) thanks for nothing kansas prohibition laws. so i picked up a few bottles and am enjoying this rainy summer night curled up with a good book and a glass (or 5) of evolution 9.
also, i have this roadside gem i found on the eastside to keep me busy all weekend. well, when i'm not a slave to my laptop whoring myself out to minimum wage jobs.
soon to be
stripped
sanded
stained
and reupholstered
stay tuned
did i mention this a low-rider rocking chair?

fine, fine, fine

my mother is a worrier.
so am i.
and over the years we've learned the precise amount of information we need to tell each other without activating the overreacting button. a lot of the time questions tend to end with "i'm fine... fine, fine, fine." but we've also learned how to decipher each other's codes
so when i say...
"i can't wait for my next teeth cleaning"
what i really mean is...
"i think i have three cavities"
-or-
when my mother says...
"i'm so happy you're going to be home over the holidays this year, i could really use a hand decorating the house and cooking meals"
what she really means is...
"surprise, i'm getting a knee replacement right before christmas, i'm glad you're going to be here to help me learn how to walk again"

haha! i have a feeling it's going to be a little harder now that we live in the same house and i can't just lie to her over the phone. :) so here's to a very happy birthday to the woman who is always fine! words really cannot express how much i love her.

simmas. enough said

the reminisce of a delicious bbq dinner

giddy about her new rain barrel

who doesn't love bubble wands on their 50-something bday?!

has that always been there?

this will more than likely be turned into a wall hanging

it was such a beautiful day in milwaukee today and there's nothing like being away for a year and a half to make you appreciate the motherland. after an amazing lunch at an old hang out with even more amazing friends, i spent the afternoon in a park by the lake with an alterra smoothie, a book and the view above. after my beach front rendezvous i drove around with the windows down in the 82 degree weather when i started to notice all the amazing architecture and details of the buildings downtown...

city hall, which had been covered in scaffolding since i was a freshman @ MU was a marvelous sight to see, stripped of its iron bars, wooden planks and plastic cones, it was overlooked for four years, but just spectacular now

seriously, all in milwaukee.
it's funny what happens when you look up

another marvelous sight to see was this adoring couple and i reunited at lulu's! lots of hugs, tears, laugher, updates, scheming, wedding planning, life planning and blue cheese

swoon

i really don't want to admit the number of...
applications i've filled out
phone interviews i've had
resumes i've sent
in person interviews i've had
cold calls i've made
feelings i've ate ;) (thank. you. frozen. custard.)

but at the risk of jinxing it...
i will admit i met with some very special people today.
and then i was overcome with giddiness.

cold filtered fun

i SWEAR i do more than go on brewery tours while i'm unemployed. but it's tough out there. and when you have to swallow your pride and pick up applications at places like starbucks and target... a little local brew can do you good! my bro is teaching me how to drink again. he threatened not to let me back in mke till i learned how. thus, a classic lake front brewery tour and friday fish fry! nom nom nom

tomorrow it's back to the grind
parking it at stonecreek
looking for a job
searching for a career
watching the state fair people traffic
putting away clothes that have been on my floor for a week
... although sprecher brewery is only 20 minutes away

p.s. my parents cat "moon unit" got a new look today
before...

after...
lion king

i thought you had a gps

last weekend was quite an adventure. my brother graciously flew to kansas to help me move back to milwaukee (for an undetermined amount of time). he drove the truck that maxed out at 75mph behind my tiny saturn. good thing he was there to be my live action global positioning system because i made every move that little black box on my dashboard told me to. including taking off road short cuts because i had my preferences set to shortest instead of fastest route. but before we set out on our mini road trip i showed my bro around kc and lawrence. he was impressed...
that i lasted that long in kansas.

blvd brewery tour
not a good idea when you're already hungover
and not a good idea for biased milwaukee natives

not paying attention and
daydreaming of his heron fountain

with a line out the door it had to be good
small world - ran into some awesome MU alum friends!

unimpressed
with the bbq and lack of security

18th & vine historic jazz disctrict
and makin' friends on the plaza

3 days later my clothes are still lying on the floor in denial of being put away because that means i will have caved in defeat of my new plans. there are multiple frustrations about not being able to go ahead with my original plan of mke hiatus then msp "forever" and being 25 and living with my parents again (good thing i like them). but a good friend just imparted some comforting words
"that's the reality of our generation"
and so it is.
but there are some things that make the transition easier and even make me happy to be back home besides free rent, utilities, laundry, and food...
the high of 84 tomorrow makes me giggle
(after a month of heat indexes @ 105)
the convenience of curbside recycling
10 blocks - wisconsin state fair
7 miles - lake michigan
much more little discoveries to come!
also mark your calenders...
october 2nd
milwaukee, wi
get jacked up!
more on that later
