the back of my sock drawer

as a result of getting an adult job i purged my closet yesterday to make room for some new business casual threads. as i was rummaging through my sock drawer, making sure i had matching pairs, i reached in back and found... something. something i'm a little embarrassed to confess in public.
i shouldn't be embarrassed, it's completely normal and healthy. a lot of people have one, even some guys. i was always open about it if anyone asked and it got a lot of use... even multiple times a day. so many of my favorite junior/senior year high school memories are centered around it. it was really comforting during those teenage angst years. something i could turn to, to de-stress. however... it's been a looooong time sense i busted it out. it's been stuffed in the back of that drawer for so long i almost forgot i still had it. but let me tell you, it was just as much fun as i remember (if not more). when i found it, it brought a HUGE smile to my face and i laughed out loud. so i'm going to tell you, but you have to promise not to judge too much. ok? when i reached in back of my sock drawer i found...

mtv's unplugged: dashboard confessional

and i still knew every word...
(funny how corny they seem almost 10 years later)

my hopes are so high that your kiss might kill me
so won't you kill me, so i die happy.
my heart is yours to fill or burst
to break or bury, or wear as jewelery, which ever you prefer
or do you like making out and long drives and brown eyes
and guys that just don't quite fit in
we're not 21, but the sooner we are the sooner the fun will begin
so get out your fake eyelashes and fake id's and real disasters ensue
it's cool to take these chances, it's cool to fake romances, and grow up fast
well as for now i'm gonna hear the saddest songs
and sit alone and wonder how you're making out
but as for me, i wish that i was anywhere with anyone... making out

approved for you

dear sbux,
generally i think you are sugary and cheap. your coffee tastes burnt and i don't appreciate you putting whipped cream on everything. however... i want to give you major props on your new commercial. not only is your freelance whales soundtrack so amazing and refreshing (and brings a huge smile to my face)... but i'm very happy you're telling the bean to brew story. it shows the world a rare look into your sense of social responsibility and environmental awareness. i just hope you're paying your farmers fair wages and not using tooooo many pesticides & herbicides.

thanks a latte,
emily

my cat has the herp and other top stories

is the cat contagious? we took the family cat to the vet the other day and turns out she has the herp. yep, like the feline version of the sti by the same name. the doc said it's probably been dormant for awhile and was induced by stress. aka a highly territorial cat who didn't like me moving back home and shutting out an entire room of HER house. but she'll be fine... a couple eye drops and some antibiotics, and yummy chicken flavored herp treats.

REAL job! i snagged an adult job. FINALLY someone has decided to cut me break. after a phone interview, a skills assessment, and getting a flat tire 14 blocks from my final interview last week, i think it is well deserved. the m-f, 730-4 job accompanies a decent paycheck, health and dental insurance, free parking and additional benefits including wellness programs, PTO, a free shrink and a used car discount! the job is with an amazing organization, The Milwaukee Center for Independence. make sure to check it out!

sweeeeeeeeeet 16! unless you've been under a rock, or don't care about college basketball (which is fine) you've heard that marquette AND wisconsin are still in the big game! i couldn't be happier! 2011 is shaping up to be a good year for sports in the state of wisconsin! (go pack go) not so much for the spotlight in politics.

a bittersweet goodbye... to my nose ring. this april marks the NINE year anniversary of when i put another hole in my face. for those of you doing the math... that's right, i was only 17. i dont' know how, but i convinced my father to take me because i was underage. i think i might have agreed to buy him lunch? either way it seems to make sense that with the importing of a new business casual wardrobe brings the exporting of the nose bling.

coming up: date night with amos lee

dye job

oh pillows you are so BORING!
wanna be green instead?
good idea.
basement sink turned into craft central station
and the bathroom doubled as a clothes line
two for the couch
two for the bed
pretty pretty color scheme :)
i think this might be a gateway drug to dying everything in sight
it's such a cheap, easy way to REstyle and make upgrades without breaking the bank

nun chucks

the only kind of protection catholics approve of

all puns aside please take a minutes to read this article

"His budget, released Tuesday, proposes the elimination of recently passed law that requires insurance plans that cover prescription drugs to also include coverage for prescription birth control. Walker's budget summary says the requirement is an "unacceptable government mandate on employers with moral objections to these services, " and that it "increases the cost of health insurance for all payers."

we all make choices.
to smoke, or not.
to eat crap or not.
to have sex or not.
so don't let your morality meter stand in the way of the choices i make. my choices involving what birth control i choose to take (or not take) have zero affect on you. who are you to judge the choices i make? please keep your religion out of my politics.

ALSO
"House of Representatives had passed a bill to
cut all federal funding for Planned Parenthood"
Read This...
just a woman with a blog and a voice
i love (& agree) with every word.

"In a country very much enamored with the idea of freedom of choice in everything for everyone, those who, like myself, believe the right to terminate a pregnancy the fundamental right of women, like to refer to it as "a woman's choice". Those who claim abortion should not be a choice we can make as free individuals claim that it is an act equivalent to pre-meditated murder. For a lot of people this is more or less the crux of the whole argument; whether one believes that in one way or another, each unique, individual life begins at the moment of conception and to vanquish it is to kill a whole human being. I believe it is a little more complicated than that."

"Like most American debates in the public sphere these days, this one too seems to go to whoever happens to be shouting the loudest at any given moment. And many (if not most) of the people doing the debating have no first-hand knowledge of physical, emotional and financial implications of the very procedure they are debating over."
